FEVER project evidenced as a Case Study in the DfT Transport Resilience Strategy

The FEVER project has recently been evidenced as a Case Study in the new Transport Resilience Strategy[1], launched by the Department for Transport (DfT) on Monday 2nd Nov 2026.

The UK Government defines resilience as: “the ability to anticipate, assess, prevent, mitigate, validate, respond to and recover and learn from natural hazards, deliberate attacks, geopolitical instability, disease outbreaks, and other disruptive events, civil emergencies or threads to our way of life”.

The UK’s transport system is a lifeblood of the country, enabling goods to be delivered/collected and people to travel to all parts of the UK in an efficient and timely fashion. This system also comprises both public and private operators across a range of modes of transport, and is fundamental to enable commerce, care and connection.

The ambition of the FEVER project to develop novel hybrid energy storage systems (HESS) to facilitate off-grid EV charging stations, clearly maps closely to the Transport Resilience Strategy. A major grid power outage or fault would cause significant disruption to our more electrified transport (and industrial/domestic) system, and it is clear that off-grid solutions such as FEVER offer a new technology alternative in mitigating such events.

The Transport Resilience Strategy is both a response to, and a part of, the UK’s National Security Strategy[1], recognising the nature of the national transport systems (road, rail, maritime and air) as key elements of critical national infrastructure. This supports the Resilience Action Plan[2], published in July 2025 and, it is hoped, could also inform the forthcoming Energy Resilience Strategy[3].
