FEVER on the Road Summer 2026: Showcasing Off-Grid EV Innovation
The FEVER project team has had a busy and inspiring summer, hitting the road to share our research across the UK and Europe! From renewable energy specialists in Glasgow (@ All-Energy), power electronics leaders in Nuremberg (@ PCIM) and sustainability innovators in London (@ Reset Connect), we’ve been actively demonstrating how grid-independent, renewable-powered EV charging stations can unlock rapid, scalable charging infrastructure.
Here is a look back at our summer 2026 event tour.
1. All-Energy Exhibition & Conference 2026 (Glasgow)
Dates: 13th–14th May 2026

We kicked off our summer event calendar in Glasgow at All-Energy 2026, the UK’s flagship event for renewable and low-carbon energy.

Our stand attracted lots of delegates from industry, academia, and local authorities predominantly representing regional initiatives across Scotland. Discussions focused on the infrastructure challenges facing the country, particularly the overall shortage of EV charging infrastructure and the difficulty of installing charging points in demand locations when constrained by local network availability.

Visitors from remote locations and Scottish islands highlighted grid capacity limitations and long connection queues. Crucially, the issue of renewable energy curtailment emerged as a major concern, where wind and/or solar generation must be restricted or turned off due to local grid issues.
The FEVER system offers a direct solution to curtailment by capturing and storing excess local renewable energy that would otherwise be wasted. By integrating local generation with hybrid storage into an off-grid microgrid, FEVER can utilise it to deploy charging infrastructure exactly where it is needed without waiting for costly grid upgrades.
2. PCIM Europe 2026 (Nuremberg, Germany)
Dates: 9th–11th June 2026
FEVER Team: Prof David Stone, Dr Maria Nunez, Prof Martin Foster, and Dr Yazan Al-Wreikat.
In June, the team travelled to Nuremberg for PCIM Europe, widely recognised as one of the world's most prestigious conferences in power electronics, intelligent motion, and energy management. Presenting at PCIM provided an international platform to showcase FEVER’s research to leading experts across academia and industry.

Two key papers from the FEVER project were presented during the conference sessions:
Dr Yazan Al-Wreikat presented his poster titled "Initial Scaled Demonstrator of an Off-Grid Electric Vehicle Charging Station", detailing experimental performance and control testing of FEVER’S first scaled demonstrator under different operating and environmental conditions.

Dr Maria Nunez delivered a presentation on her paper, "Techno-economic sizing of a Renewable Hybrid Energy System for an EV Charging Station", focusing on optimal sizing strategies that balance commercial viability with high operational reliability for off-grid EV charging stations.
Both papers will be available to read on IEEE Xplore starting in August 2026.

3. Reset Connect London (ExCeL London)
Dates: 23rd–24th June 2026
FEVER Team: Prof Andrew Cruden and Prof David Stone
To round off our summer tour, FEVER exhibited at Reset Connect London, held at ExCeL London as the flagship event of London Climate Action Week.

Focusing on sustainability, net-zero strategy, and green infrastructure, Reset Connect provided a platform to highlight the FEVER research project. Prof Andrew Cruden and Prof David Stone connected with sustainability leads and climate technology stakeholders looking for viable alternative energy models.
